Woburn, MA, March 31, 2005 - SensAble Technologies, Inc. announced today that version 8.1 of the FreeForm® Modeling Plus™ software is now shipping. The FreeForm® Modeling Plus™ system is a unique 3D touch-enabled Computer Aided Sculpting (CAS) system that uses a virtual clay metaphor and allows users to rapidly produce highly-detailed, organic models. The version 8.1 software includes higher quality surfacing, enhanced screen display performance, and new voxel modeling tools.
The version 8.1 software builds on the foundation that was implemented in the version 8.0 software in December 2004 for combining surfaces and solids with virtual clay in an integrated environment. The version 8.1 software includes surfacing improvements, including surfaces that fit tighter to the clay and better tangency of adjoining surfaces, which provide higher quality output for use with CAM systems. The new software also includes enhanced screen display performance, particularly for large models, making it faster and easier for users to rotate and manipulate their models. Additionally, the version 8.1 software provides new voxel modeling tools that speed the modeling process including:

Bevel - constant angled cuts to an edge

Enhanced Round Edge - variable radius cuts to an edge

Extract Curves - reuse curves for other modeling operations

Split Mesh - split existing models along specific curves
Availability
The version 8.1 software for the FreeForm Modeling Plus system is available on March 31, 2005. FreeForm Modeling Plus customers with active maintenance contracts will automatically receive the FreeForm Modeling Plus v8.1 release at no charge.
The version 8.1 software for the FreeForm® Modeling™ system, which includes the improved screen display performance and the new voxel modeling tools, but excludes the surfacing functionality, is also available on March 31, 2005. FreeForm Modeling customers with active maintenance contracts will automatically receive the FreeForm Modeling v8.1 release at no charge or can purchase a software-only upgrade for the FreeForm Modeling Plus system.
New and existing customers have the option of purchasing node-locked or floating licenses. The FreeForm Modeling and Modeling Plus systems include the PHANTOM® Desktop™ haptic device and run on Windows® XP and Windows 2000.
